This might be interesting…
Came across this free sourdough starter offer… I think it’s actually from the Oregon Trail and 150 years old. I’m mailing off for it today; look for an update in a month or so. Sounds like a fun thing to try with our bread technique. Read the “About Carl” section… what a champ!

That’s cool! In the last section of “The Omnivore’s Dilemma” (page 399-400 in the paperback) Michael Pollen writes about creating his own “wild yeast” by putting a mix of flour and water on the windowsill for a little bit and then sealing it up. He continued to feed it water and flour and made sure it smelled yeasty as it grew and didn’t look too scary. Like the yeast version of Seymour the plant.
